Let them Stay!

Why can't they come? Why can't they stay? Why don't they have equal opportunities? Just because they were not born within these imaginary lines created around us doesn't mean that they shouldn't get a fair shot at living a comfortable life or be able to support a family.

Immigrants have been an extremely important aspect of American history considering the entire nation was build upon them. To this day they contribute to society more than a majority of Americans would think. Many complain that they are taking our jobs, corrupting our country, taking our money, and posing a security threat.

However much of this is not true. "Instead, they create new jobs by forming new businesses, spending their incomes on American goods and services, paying taxes and raising the productivity of the U.S. businesses. Immigrants are good for the economy, not the other way around." (Immigrants and the Economy)

Here the author of the article explains how the immigrants are actually beneficial to the economy. He/she describes how many immigrants actually do pay taxes contrary to what many believe.  He/she stated that they do also spend the money that they earn on products in America also contributing a better economy. Later in the article the author goes on to explain how these immigrants are creating new jobs as well since there are some who create their own businesses, and that since there is no set number of jobs, immigrants can't be "stealing" them from Americans.

"A U.S. Department of Labor study prepared by the Bush Administration noted that the perception that immigrants take jobs away from American workers is "the most persistent fallacy about immigration in popular thought" because it is based on the mistaken assumption that there is only a fixed number of jobs in the economy." (Immigration and the Economy)

America Über Alles...?

Arizona has passed a law not to long ago which targets illegal immigrants as well as those who hire or transport them. "Arizona's law orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally". (What does Arizona's Immigration Law Do?)

This law encourages racial police profiling by allowing officers to question those who they believe might be illegal. It is upsetting to see that even in this day and age, racism and discrimination are still major issues in this country; not only amongst the people, but amongst the state as well. Many other states have been pushing to get similar bills passed, however there is a lot of controversy about it. According to Fox News, many Texas Sheriffs don't want to enforce laws like this. But others like Sheriff Milton Wright felt that it was becoming to much of a problem. He even said that he would support laws requiring his deputies to enforce immigration laws if the federal government won't. He said "If they're not going to do it, then we need to".

Preventing illegal immigrants from entering the United States, and finding those already in the country and deporting them is not cheap. According to the article "building a wall", the annual price for border patrol is $2.7 billion. It has risen dramatically since 1992 when the US was only paying $326.2 million. The cost for arresting a single immigrant is also rising rapidly. The only thing involving immigrants that might destroy the economy is the fight against them.
Immigration from countries such as Mexico is a result of poverty amongst the working class, and a contributing factor of poverty is globalization. Multinational corporations have realized that by expanding their companies into other countries, they can find cheaper labor leading to more profit. Then these companies are able to keep reducing the wages until they are paying next to nothing for labor. Many of the corporations are from America and the US government allows them to take advantage of of these countries with financial problems and make everything worse. When these companies move their factories across borders, they are also taking jobs away from Americans, yet we complain that we have no jobs in this country because of illegal immigrants. The rich and the large corporations are the real enemy; not the immigrants who have nothing and cross the borders in search of a better life.

It is time to stop discriminating against the immigrants moving to this country! They are beneficial to our economy and society, attempting to close the borders and remove the immigrants from this country will only costs the government billions, and they are not the enemy. It is time to treat them as human  being and share the land we live on.

Poem

Cross the border?
Real, or imagined, it's just a drawn line.
Imagine...
Imagine a line drawn between you and the nearest grocery stor
e.
Imagine...
Imagine that you just ate a slice o' bread and you hunger for more.
Imagine...
Imagine the shelves o' food in that grocery store upon which your starvin' belly could dine.
Imagine...
Imagine that all you would have to do to cross the border is to crawl across that drawn line.
Imagine...
Imagine that YOU are the one whose job it is to shoot anyone who dares to cross that borderline drawn in front o' you.
Imagine...
Imagine that it is YOU who chooses to feed or to kill the hungry and then ask yourself, "What would Jesus have me do?"
Real, or imagined, it's just a drawn line.
Cross the border.

This poem describes how we let something such as a border, a simple line, separate the human race. It makes you picture yourself starving, desperately searching for food, and your only obstacle to get to that food to keep you alive is that border. Your perspective then changes and you are now picturing yourself as a border patrol officer who has the ability to allow this starving human being, who is just like you, to cross that border making you his savior; or you could make sure he doesn't cross and have his blood on your hands. This poem really depicts how desperate these immigrants are, and how us not allowing them over is destroying them.

Political Cartoon I

This Political cartoon shows the pilgrims landing in America and being asked to show their identification and prove they are legally there by Native Americans. It shows how our ancestors were immigrants at one point to. The Indians were there first on this land but the white men came regardless. Now they that have gained control of the land they want to be hypocrites and keep other who want to live here off of it.

Political Cartoon II

This political cartoons shows two border patrol officers sitting down and talking next to a sign that read "no Jobs". One of the officers goes on to say, "We tried it all: Dogs, Helicopters, night vision, towering border fences. Who knew it would be this easy".

He said this because the giant sign at the border was better at deterring immigrants from coming into the country than everything else that they have tried. The artist is showing how these immigrants will take desperate and dangerous actions to get to the USA only for a job. many immigrants prefer to stay in there homeland but have no choice to leave in order to find a job to feed themselves or their families.
